Danbury council approves appointments, grant applications and a state parcel transfer

The Danbury City Council approved multiple routine appointments and grant authorizations and accepted a state parcel acquisition payment during the Nov. 7 meeting.

On the consent calendar the council authorized the mayor and named designees to apply for and accept various grants, including a police funding application (up to $50,000), a $141,240 transportation grant with no city match, and a health and human services funding application up to $10,000. The council also authorized the mayor (or designees) to apply for the Downtown Danbury transit‑oriented streetscape grant and to participate in a national book giveaway competition through the library director.

Appointments approved by voice vote included Rochelle Goddard as a certified police officer; Minnie Santouche to the Danbury Housing Authority (term to Nov. 7, 2027); Larry Phelan to the Civil Service Commission (term to Nov. 7, 2026); and Susan Nolan to the Terri Wild Park Authority (term to Nov. 7, 2027). Council accepted the minutes and a set of committee reports by voice vote.

Separately, the council authorized the mayor to transfer a city parcel on Route 53 to the state for intersection improvements and to accept $15,000 in compensation on the city’s behalf; the council approved a resolution to that effect by voice vote.

The council also approved an add‑on resolution authorizing the mayor or Katie Pearson, library director, to apply for the Baker & Taylor / YALSA collection development grant and to execute documents if awarded. All routine items were approved by voice vote; the record shows “ayes have it” rather than a roll‑call tally.
