Douglas County proclaims July 2026 as Parks and Recreation Month

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners adopted a proclamation on July 7 recognizing July 2026 as Parks and Recreation Month.
Chad Griffin, director of Parks and Recreation, presented the proclamation and highlighted county facilities and programming, saying the county ‘‘offers 20 beautiful parks, 25 miles of trails, and more than 2,000 acres of parkland featuring 49 athletic fields, 5 disc golf courses, 4 dog parks, and 12 playgrounds.’’ The proclamation also noted the role of parks in promoting health, wellness and economic benefits for the community.
The board voted unanimously, 5–0, to approve the proclamation and posed for a photograph following the vote. Commissioners and staff thanked the Parks and Recreation Department for its work expanding programs and facilities.
The proclamation encourages residents to visit county parks and to recognize the contributions of parks staff, volunteers and partner organizations. The item was presented and approved as a ceremonial recognition; no additional budget or policy action was recorded in the meeting minutes.
