Rochelle Park superintendent to retire; board accepts resignation effective Jan. 1, 2026

Dr. Sue DeNobile, Rochelle Park’s superintendent since 2020, announced at the Sept. 30 Board of Education meeting that she will retire at the end of the calendar year and read a resignation letter to the board and public.
In the letter Dr. DeNobile said she is concluding a 32-year career in education: “After 32 years in this great profession of education, I am honored to have my journey conclude with retirement from Rochelle Park School District.” The board approved the resignation at the meeting; the personnel resolution sets a service termination date of Dec. 31, 2025 and an effective retirement date of Jan. 1, 2026.
The vote followed remarks from board members and administrators praising DeNobile’s leadership. Board President Scott Kral highlighted the district’s operational and instructional changes during her tenure, including expanded special education programs and facility improvements, and said the superintendent prioritized students and staff through pandemic-era disruptions. Kral told the meeting the district achieved “leaps and bounds” in several areas and thanked DeNobile for her service.
Business Administrator Michele Rainone and other administrators also expressed appreciation for Dr. DeNobile’s mentorship and transparency. Director of Curriculum Cara Hurd and Supervisor of Special Services Jessica DiCori joined administrators who were called forward to receive recognition for completing a recertification training on the Stronge evaluation model.
The resignation was included in a personnel motion (P1–P5) that the board approved unanimously. Motion for P1–P5 was made by Christina Holz and seconded by Michele Balik; roll call vote 6–0. The personnel resolution specifically lists the retirement timeline and thanks Dr. DeNobile for her years of service.
What happens next: The board did not announce a successor at the meeting. The board’s procedural calendar shows a continued executive session practice and the next regular meeting is scheduled for Oct. 28, 2025, where next steps on transition planning could be discussed.
