Council designates John Jones as Acting City Manager beginning Oct. 1; chief to assist transition

Law Director Bryan E. Pacheco explained the designation follows charter section 4.04 and required a majority vote. Councilman Kristopher Parrish moved the designation and Councilman Mark Thompson seconded. The motion passed with one no vote from Councilman Ralph Vilardo Jr.; minutes record the remainder as voting yes.
Interim City Manager/Chief of Police Jamey Mills told council that Jones will officially start Oct. 1 and that Mills will remain involved to help acclimate and assist with the search process for a permanent city manager. The council also noted ongoing candidate interviews this week for the permanent position.
Next steps: John Jones will begin as Acting City Manager Oct. 1 and the city will continue the recruitment/interview process for the permanent manager.
