Chair John Gentile told the Commission for Persons with Disabilities that the group received two recent calls from Danbury residents: one about a condominium resident seeking an exterior railing and another about a mall elevator that had been out of service for many months. Gentile said he visited the mall and found the elevator working the day before the meeting but stressed the commission's limited authority on private property matters.
The commission emphasized enforcement limits for private lots but urged residents to notify property managers or call police when accessible parking is misused. Gentile said placards must be displayed visibly and members flagged drivers parking in access hash marks used for wheelchair loading. "You can go to the property owner or manager and complain to them, or you can call the police yourself," Gentile said, stressing property managers are responsible for lot enforcement.
Members also discussed on‑demand transit 'hut' installations. Gentile said installing bus shelters is relatively simple but maintaining them and keeping surrounding spaces accessible is the harder, ongoing issue; he noted past local objections to shelters used as overnight gathering spots near certain sites. The commission agreed to keep on‑demand transportation as an open action item.
Gentile announced that commissioner Jeff Doyle is moving out of the area and will no longer serve. After business concluded, Gentile moved to adjourn; a commissioner seconded and the commission approved the motion by voice vote. Gentile said the next commission meeting is scheduled for Jan. 13, 2026.
