Alameda County Arts Commission seeks public input on artworks for four new fire projects

The Alameda County Arts Commission said it has convened selection committees for four replacement fire stations and a training center and invited the public to review six artist proposals per project online and at local libraries through Sept. 30.
Rachel Osejima, director of the Alameda County Arts Commission, told the committee that her office is partnering with the Alameda County Fire Department to place public artwork outside four upcoming projects (three replacement fire stations and a training center in Dublin).
She described separate selection committees for each project made up of community members and fire staff, and said each committee shortlisted six artists. "Those proposals are now on view on our website and available for public comment," Osejima said, directing residents to arts.acgov.org and announcing displays at Castro Valley and Dublin libraries. She said the comment period is open through Sept. 30.
Osejima said the commission will select one artist per project; each chosen artist’s original work will be photographed and digitally printed on large exterior panels. After selections, the arts commission will advance recommendations to the Board of Supervisors and the Alameda County Fire Department for final approval.
The announcement drew no formal action at the committee; the arts office will return with recommendations following the selection process.
