Board moves into executive session to draft superintendent evaluation, schedules follow-up meeting

The Bridgeport Board of Education voted on July 6 to enter executive session to draft a performance evaluation for Superintendent Dr. Avery and scheduled a follow-up executive-session meeting next Monday to present the draft to the superintendent.

The presiding official explained the board would use its standard evaluation procedures (referred to in the record as the CAVE/CAPS process) and noted that evaluations are typically conducted in executive session unless the superintendent requests public discussion. A board member for the record said Dr. Avery waived his right to a public discussion, permitting the board to proceed behind closed doors.

A motion to go into executive session to discuss the evaluation was recorded as moved by "Mister Collins" and seconded by "Mister Taylor." The presiding official called for aye/oppose and the board proceeded to executive session, with the public record indicating the board left at about 06:15 and returned at 07:48. After returning from executive session, the board announced it would meet next Monday at 6 PM for an executive-session meeting with the superintendent to go over the draft evaluation.
