Solano County employees won the 2024 Counties Care Holiday Food Fight, county staff announced, taking home the contest’s “big apple” trophy for the fifth consecutive year.
County administration staff told the Board of Supervisors that Solano County employees collectively raised $58,833 during this year’s competition, an average of about $19.78 per employee. Their friendly rivals, employees of Contra Costa County, raised $54,831. Together, staff said, the two counties and some community donations produced $113,765 for the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano this year.
Davis, of the county administrator’s office, described the logistics behind the effort — recruiting department leads, coordinating raffles and displays, and working with the food bank — and credited several staff leaders for managing the campaign alongside their regular duties. Caitlin Slye, president and CEO of the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano, thanked county employees and noted that the funds and food from the holiday drive also support the food bank’s year‑round operations at a time of federal funding pressure.
Staff highlighted the longer-term impact of the program: Solano County employees have raised about $789,000 since the food fight began, and both counties have contributed roughly $2.6 million combined over the years. The board recognized department teams and accepted awards and photos honoring contributing departments.
No formal board action was required; the presentation was informational and meant to acknowledge staff and employee generosity.
