Johns Creek highlights large federal bridge grant, event attendance and possible postal-zone change

City Manager Greer summarized July activity and recent grant awards at the Aug. 11 Johns Creek City Council meeting, including recreation events, public-safety recruit graduations and two grants the city plans to use for transportation improvements.
Greer said the city's Independence Day celebration drew an estimated 12,000–15,000 people, highlighted cross-department collaboration, and noted that five probationary firefighters and four police cadets joined departments after academy participation.
On grants, Greer said the Georgia chapter of the American Public Works Association named the Barnwell at Holcomb Road improvement the 2025 Project of the Year. He said the city received a $134,000 Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) safety action plan grant to fund small safety projects like reflective pavement markers and a mid-block crossing at East John's Crossing. He also said the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded Johns Creek a $12,800,000 grant to replace two bridges on Old Alabama Road.
Separately, during opening remarks Mayor Bradbury said talks with the U.S. Postal Service continue about a possible Johns Creek postal zone that would let the city name be the preferred last-line city for addresses now using Roswell, Alpharetta or Duluth.
Greer invited council questions about other projects and confirmed staff would follow up on requests for clarified cost and seating numbers for the performing arts center materials posted online.
