Advisory committee seeks clarity on Boy Scout parking switch and $30,000 arts grant

During other business, committee members raised operational and transparency questions about recent events and budget items.

A committee member said community members asked why a Boy Scout troop that previously handled arts-festival parking did not do so this year. "They were saying that, the for the past art festival parking… the boy scout troop had taken over some of the responsibility for parking and then, but this time it was canceled," the member said. Erica Madison said that topic was not on the agenda but added, "our city management has been in direct discussions with the Boy Scouts about their concerns," and the committee could add the item to a future agenda.

Separately, Committee member (speaker 7) asked for details about a $30,000 line item for a local arts grant and how it would be used and applied for. "There was a line item on the city budget for, local arts grant of 30,000 that we'd love to have some disclosure about what that's for and what it's gonna be used for and how it's applied and generally communicated," the member said. Madison said another staff member who manages that process could provide an update at a later meeting and referred the committee to Olivia, Assistant to the City Manager.

Committee members also asked that staff consider vendor selection processes after feedback from Diwali vendors who said they repeatedly apply but are not selected; staff agreed the committee could add that topic to a future agenda.
