The Kinder Town Council approved several administrative actions on March 9, 2026, including surplus declarations for town equipment and buildings, the addition of a demolition-and-clearance resolution to the agenda, and appointments to the zoning board.
The council approved minutes from the Feb. 2 meeting (5-0). On the mayor’s recommendation, the council declared two Bush Hogs surplus (5-0) and approved surplusing the old building at Veteran’s Park (5-0). A motion to surplus the old maintenance building at 508 N 8th St, including the property, passed 4-1, with Councilwoman LaToya Tunwar recorded in opposition.
Mayor LaFargue moved to add Resolution #2026-04 — “Demolition and Clearance of Dilapidated and Blighted Structures for Lot 1 & Lot 2 — FY 2025 LCDBG” — to the agenda; Councilman Jerry Nevils made the motion to add the item and Councilwoman Angie Van Norman seconded. The council approved adding the resolution 5-0.
Town Attorney Michael Holmes asked the council to accept Vickie Tunwar’s resignation from the zoning board and to fill two seats, including the unexpired term of Brittney Taylor. The council accepted the resignation and recorded the appointment of Barbara Harrison as the District 1 zoning-board member (motion recorded as passed with one abstention by Councilwoman Tunwar). The council also appointed Molly Karam to fill the District 3 vacancy (5-0). Mayor LaFargue proposed $50 compensation for zoning-board members attending meetings; Holmes advised the council to check existing ordinances before approving compensation.
Holmes reported the rezoning request for 123 N 4th St was tabled and rescheduled to April 6, 2026 due to a zoning-board quorum issue. City Engineer Rhett Deselle of Pan American Engineers reported on the status of the Wastewater Treatment Plant project, the Nixon Addition drainage project, and the Clearance Project tied to the LCDBG demolition/clearance effort that was added to the agenda.
The meeting adjourned at 7:24 p.m.
