Brimfield trustees accept $580,045.30 Howe Road OPWC grant, extend police tech contract and raise community center rates

Trustee Kevin Scott moved and Trustee Sue Fields seconded a package of administrative and road actions at the Brimfield Township Board of Trustees regular meeting on June 15, 2026, where the board approved several contracts, a major grant acceptance and routine fiscal measures.
The board unanimously voted to accept an Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) Round 41 grant that will cover part of the Howe Road project. Trustee Kevin Scott said the grant totals $580,045.30 and will be split 50/50 between the township and grant funding; the board approved acceptance of the grant and the matching commitment. The trustees also authorized advertising for bids on the Sanctuary View Road project in the Record Courier with a bid opening scheduled for July 20, 2026, and a deadline for bid submissions set for 6:30 PM the same day.
On public safety items, Trustee Sue Fields moved to approve a one‑year extension of the township's Flock Safety contract for $12,000; Trustee Nicholas Coia seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. The board also accepted a three‑year school resource officer agreement among the Brimfield Police Department, Field Local School District and the designated School Resource Officer; Trustee Kevin Scott moved the acceptance and Trustee Sue Fields seconded.
The trustees approved administrative changes affecting community services and fiscal operations. Trustee Kevin Scott moved to raise Community Center rental rates for residents from $150 to $175 and for nonresidents from $250 to $275, and to prohibit alcohol on the property; Trustee Sue Fields seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The board granted permission for a community block party to use Brimfield Town Center Fields parking, electricity and water on Aug. 8, 2026.
On fiscal matters, the board created a new debt services fund (3102) to replace transition funding in fund 2199, per guidance from the State Auditor, and adopted a resolution amending revenues for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2026. Both the fund creation and the revenue amendment were moved by Trustee Kevin Scott, seconded by Trustee Sue Fields, adopted unanimously and certified by Fiscal Officer Jasmine Golden.
During public comment, residents raised neighborhood maintenance and drainage concerns. Jodi Mothersbaugh and Camilla Taylor told the trustees they are experiencing a rat problem in the Beechcrest allotment and asked what steps the township can take; the meeting minutes record their concerns but do not show an immediate board decision on mitigation. Jacob Kozma and Paul Kessler reported persistent wet conditions behind properties in the King Ridge development and asked whether soil and water follow‑up is still pending; the trustees did not record a specific follow‑up timeline in the minutes.
Other routine approvals included motions to approve purchase orders and warrants, and to approve minutes from the June 1 meeting. Trustee Kevin Scott moved to adjourn at 9:40 PM; the motion was seconded by Trustee Sue Fields and the board voted unanimously to adjourn.
The board also recorded an announcement from Trustee Sue Fields about a July 2 bluegrass concert at First Freedom Baptist Church and recognized Megan Bright, chief marketing officer at Village of St. Edwards, who noted the Village received a Locate, Stay and Grow award and described an assisted‑living and memory care project planned for Tallmadge Road.
