Board adopts New Jersey School Boards Association Code of Ethics

The Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School Board of Education adopted the New Jersey School Boards Association Code of Ethics at its Jan. 2, 2024 meeting following a review by board counsel.
Athina Cornell, Esq., reviewed the School Ethics Act and the Code of Ethics for board members, outlining obligations to uphold state laws, act in students' educational welfare, confine board action to policy and oversight, avoid conflicts of interest, and maintain confidentiality.
The adoption resolution (citing N.J.S.A. 18A:12-24.1) was moved by Mr. Page and seconded by Mrs. Whitehouse. A roll call recorded six affirmative votes from present members and the code was adopted.
The resolution instructs board members to abide by the enumerated principles in accordance with board policy and the cited statute.
