Planning board recommends rezoning to correct PUD map and include beach/mangrove parcel

The Planning & Zoning Board voted to recommend that City Council approve RZ2410, a rezoning request that will change roughly 0.683 acres from Volusia County resource corridor/wetland designations to City of Edgewater Mixed Use Planned Unit Development to correct a surveying omission.
Staff said the parcel was omitted from the rezoning and annexation work done in September because of a survey error; the rezoning now brings the beach/mangrove parcel into the previously approved PUD agreement. The applicant’s representative (Jessica Gallo Cobko) said the City Commission is holding the companion annexation and PUD amendment so the items will be considered together at a later council meeting.
Neighbors asked questions about access and whether the shoreline would remain mangrove; staff and the applicant said the PUD amendment will contain conditions reflecting council direction to preserve mangroves along the shoreline and that additional mangrove plantings are planned in the project area.
The board voted to send a favorable recommendation to City Council.
