The Green Design Review Board recommended approval of a new monument sign for Portage Lakes Career Center after a brief presentation by FMD Architects.
Tim Ruzick, the project architect, described a masonry monument wall with aluminum address numerals and mirrored north/south sign faces. He said the LED display areas were designed to keep the electronic portion below the 20-square-foot threshold: “The square feet of the screen here is roughly 19.7 to get it under that 20 square feet,” Ruzick said.
Board members raised minor questions about masonry color and landscaping. The school representatives said they would work to preserve and replant landscaping disturbed during sign removal and replacement. The Chair said the design and compliance with electronic-sign standards and landscaping supported a favorable recommendation.
The board voted to recommend the sign with staff conditions; the motion passed unanimously by voice and roll call.
The recommendation directs staff to confirm final materials and landscaping details before the city issues its permit.
