Michael Griggs, board member, said, “We did receive a $100,000 gift from the FirstEnergy Foundation,” and added that a separate $150,000 gift came from Group 1001, an Indianapolis firm.
The funding update matters because staff said the project budget, as it stands, is $1,055,300 and that minor changes submitted by the county to the stormwater plan could slightly alter the final cost. Michael Griggs said, “The project budget as it stands now is $1,055,300. It may change slightly,” and staff noted any small difference would be covered by the project contingency.
Board members discussed a proposed digital scoreboard for the ball field. A staff member said the custom digital option will be more expensive than off-the-shelf models: “It’s — it’s north of $50,000,” the staff member said. Staff also noted $20,000 for scoreboard-related costs exists in the current budget and that a basic, non-digital scoreboard could be purchased within the current numbers if needed.
Project staff reported they have one contractor who has indicated a willingness to donate services but emphasized there is no written agreement yet. Fundraising remains active, and staff are pursuing additional grants and sponsorships, including naming and scoreboard-sponsorship opportunities.
The board did not take formal action on the Kleckner Park budget at this meeting; staff said they will continue fundraising and will return with further cost details as contractor proposals and grant decisions mature.
