Committee backs resolution to redesign county website for better public access to legislation

Councilmember Cindy Evans introduced Resolution 6-10-24 asking the Director of Information Technology and the County Clerk to improve functionality of the county website to make legislation, votes, and supporting documents easier for the public to find and follow.
Ayil Eubank (DIT) told the committee that a web-administration staff is now in-house and has started a proof-of-concept incorporating ideas from the state site and the county clerk's office. "We don't have to go outside to get this taken care of," Eubank said, adding that the department has begun outreach to users to understand how residents look for legislative information.
Councilmember Kimball encouraged DIT to include community outreach and user feedback as part of development so the tools work for ordinary residents as well as council staff. The committee voted to forward Resolution 6-10-24 to the full council with a favorable recommendation; the clerk recorded the motion carried 8 ayes with one excused member.
The resolution asks for improvements such as consolidated bill pages, visible vote records and links to testimony; staff said further scoping, a timeline and cost estimates would follow prior to any procurement or implementation.
