DRC approves modular childcare building for Feed My Sheep Learning Center

Alachua County staff presented a revised final development plan for the Feed My Sheep Learning Center on Oct. 17, proposing the placement of a prefabricated classroom building of just over 3,700 square feet with associated infrastructure on a church parcel at 2303 Southeast 27th Street (more than 5 acres).
Leslie McClendon said the Board of County Commissioners previously approved a special exception for a childcare facility on Feb. 27 with several conditions; the current development plan was presented to satisfy site-plan requirements and staff found the proposal consistent with the Comprehensive Plan, the Unified Land Development Code and the approved special exception. Staff noted the proposal preserves almost 90% of on-site tree canopy, provides sidewalks, vehicle circulation and drop-off queuing, bicycle parking, and a new stormwater basin with basin plantings as required by code.
When the Chair asked for clarification about conditions, staff acknowledged an error in the packet: the staff report did not list conditions for this item and staff confirmed there are no conditions associated with the presented plan. Gary Downson, the civil engineer of record, said he had no formal presentation but was available for questions. No public comment was recorded.
A committee member moved to approve the revised final development plan and another committee member seconded. The Chair called a voice vote; members said 'Aye' and no opposition was voiced. The motion passed by voice vote. The DRC took final action on the development plan; any further Board review will be noted by staff if required.
