Shelter highlights Whisker Wednesday TNR program, school career visits and mega-adoption participation

A veterinarian leading the Whisker Wednesday program described the shelter's ongoing TNR work to manage free-roaming and feral cat populations and estimated it could take five to 10 years of focused TNR to achieve measurable reductions in intake in targeted areas.
"It is something that's been shown in a number of communities...I think that it probably will be a 5 to 10 year thing," the presenter said, describing volunteer participation and partnerships, including vet tech students from Weatherford College.
Levi Liao recapped career-day outreach to Eichard Elementary, Crockett Elementary and Seguin, saying the shelter focused on reunification, vaccinations and explaining shelter services to children to cultivate future animal advocates.
Amber Wilson, the shelter's outreach and engagement officer for the City of Weatherford Animal Services, reported community events and partnerships. She said the shelter participated in a Dallas mega adoption event that included more than 1,000 animals and many organizations; Weatherford placed three animals at that event. Wilson also described partnerships with Petco and other local businesses, vaccination clinics and media partnerships that helped raise the shelter's public profile.
Committee members thanked presenters and asked no immediate follow-up actions; staff were encouraged to continue outreach and volunteer recruitment.
