State Rep. Shelley Luther said the Texas Department of Transportation has placed a planned improvement at the SH 121 and U.S. 75 intersection in Van Alstyne on its 10‑year Unified Transportation Program, a draft list of projects that remains open for public comment.
"Big news, everybody. We wanted to announce that the TxDOT project at 121 and 75 got put on the 10 year UTP," Luther said, calling the listing an honor and urging residents to explain local traffic and safety problems so the project stays on the final plan.
Mayor Jim Acheson noted the entry is part of a draft plan and emphasized that TxDOT is still taking comments. "It's a draft plan at this point, so TxDOT is still gathering public comment until August 3rd," he said, urging residents to describe congestion, safety concerns and delays — for example, how traffic affects school pickup or daily travel — when they submit remarks.
Officials said the city will post links to the TxDOT comment page on the city Facebook page and website. "It won't take more than a minute or two to do it," Acheson said, encouraging broad participation to strengthen the case for funding.
The officials did not announce any formal local action or vote during the remarks. The next public step is for residents to submit comments to TxDOT by the Aug. 3 deadline, after which the agency will consider input as it finalizes the UTP.
