Danbury zoning board elects Rivas as chair and honors longtime chairman Joe Hanna

The Danbury Zoning Board of Appeals elected Rivas to serve as its new chair and selected Williamson as vice chair during its April 23 meeting, and members honored outgoing chairman Joseph Hanna with citations from the mayor and the Connecticut General Assembly.
Chair Joe Hanna, who said this is his last meeting after decades of service, was recognized by board members for long service. A board member read a mayoral citation awarding Joseph Hanna recognition "for over 20 years of service to the city of Danbury on the zoning board of appeals," signed in April 2026. The board also read a Connecticut General Assembly citation commending Hanna for more than 23 years of service and named several state legislators who introduced the citation.
Board members repeatedly thanked Hanna for his years on the board. Members nominated Rivas for chairman; the board voted to confirm the nomination. The board then nominated Williamson for vice chair and confirmed that nomination. Members described the change as an orderly transition and extended thanks for Hanna's leadership.
The meeting adjourned after the election and recognition items. The personnel changes take effect immediately for board leadership and will guide the Zoning Board of Appeals' proceedings going forward.
