Committee to advance AB 1153 and $44 million vaccination management budget request to full board

The Alameda County Board of Supervisors’ personnel, administration and legislation committee agreed on March 10 to advance two items to the full Board.

The committee chair said he would "advance AB 1153 at the request of Supervisor Miley's office"; AB 1153 was described as solid waste disposal and co-disposal site cleanup legislation and will be forwarded to the full Board for consideration and support. The chair also said he would advance the county Health Agency's request for "sustained funding for the future of public health," including a $44,000,000 general fund request for the Vaccination Management Program.

Committee members had no public speakers on those action items and the chair indicated there were no negative comments from colleagues' offices at the time of the meeting. The chair stated the items will be placed on the full Board agenda for formal consideration.

Why it matters: AB 1153 concerns solid waste site cleanup authority and could affect county environmental and solid-waste operations; the $44 million request, if adopted by the full Board and included in the county budget, would provide substantial ongoing general fund support for county vaccination management.

Public participation: During closing public comment the committee invited online participants to identify themselves; attendees who spoke or identified themselves included Leon Fernando (Child Support Services), Mona Bar Gibson (Alameda County Assessor's Office), Diana Garcia (First 5 Alameda County), Jessica Blakemore (Alameda County Health) and Hannah Hamilton (Alameda County Social Services Agency).

The committee adjourned after public comment; the full Board will next consider the advanced items on its agenda.
