County committee agrees to advance positions on AB 470, SB 304 and Diaper Bank funding

The Alameda County Personnel Administration and Legislation Committee on April 21 agreed to advance a set of state-level positions to the full Board of Supervisors.
Chair Supervisor Tam described three requests from Supervisor Miley: oppose AB 470, a bill about telephone carriers of last resort that the county says could end landline service protections for vulnerable residents; support Senator Aregain’s SB 304 to expand and modernize certain Port of Oakland public trust land uses; and support a state budget request to continue funding for the Alameda County Diaper Bank program administered by the county’s Social Services Agency. "Do we have concurrence on those positions?" Chair Tam asked; the committee replied, "We do," and Chair Tam said the recommendations will move forward to the full board.
A supervisor raised a procedural concern about the timing and availability of supplemental materials for upcoming Sacramento hearings and urged vetting of requests through the appropriate county committee workflow. Chair Tam confirmed she is following the county’s process and said it is more powerful to have the entire board adopt positions rather than a single supervisor acting alone.
No public speakers spoke on these items during the meeting. The committee’s action was to forward the recommendations to the full Board of Supervisors for final consideration.
