County planner Jacob Salplanner presented a revised final development plan for the Flamingo Sports Club, a proposed outdoor recreation facility on Southwest Archer Road occupying about 21 acres of a former YMCA site. Salplanner said the plan includes multiple courts (pickleball, tennis and basketball), a championship pickleball court, landscaping and buffering to meet the special-exception conditions that the Board of County Commissioners imposed on Dec. 10, 2024. He told the committee the submittal meets required parking and landscape-code standards and preserves the vast majority of existing tree canopy in the areas identified on the plan.
Claudia Vega of EDA Consultants, representing the applicant, said she had no separate presentation but was available to answer questions; committee members had none. Committee member (speaker 4) moved to approve the revised final development plan with conditions; another member (speaker 7) seconded and the motion passed by voice vote.
Why it matters: The revision implements conditions of a previously granted special exception and advances the project toward permitting and construction. Staff recommended approval with conditions; further permits and construction-phase approvals remain subject to meeting those conditions.
