Ken Cornell elected chair; Anna Prizzi named vice chair of Alachua County commission

Ken Cornell was unanimously elected chair of the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners at the board’s Nov. 4 special meeting, and Anna Prizzi was elected vice chair.
Jess Irby, Alachua County’s clerk of the court and comptroller, opened the meeting and presented a plaque to outgoing chair Commissioner Chestnut in recognition of his service. After brief remarks from Chestnut and other commissioners, members nominated Cornell for chair and Prizzi for vice chair. Both nominations were seconded and approved by voice vote without opposition.
The new leadership gestures were followed by brief remarks from Cornell, who thanked the outgoing chair and praised the board’s staff and continuity of service. Commissioners signaled they plan to continue collaborative work on county priorities—particularly housing, veterans services and climate initiatives—under the new roles.
The commissions’ procedural votes were routine: motions to nominate and elect the chair and vice chair, followed by unanimous approval. The board returned to its regular agenda and public-comment schedule after the leadership change.
