Eagle Township board agrees to forward interim zoning use-chart changes to planning commission

At its July 18 meeting the Eagle Township Board reviewed proposed revisions to the Interim Zoning Ordinance (IZO) permitted-use chart and agreed to forward specified edits to consultant McKenna and the Eagle Township Planning Commission.
The board agreed to add Special Use (S) for bed-and-breakfasts under Agricultural (A) zoning and remove Special Use under Residential (R). Boarding and breeding kennels were changed from Special Use in Rural Estate (RE) to Permitted (P) in Commercial (C). The board left the Special Use designation for commercial livestock in RE only if the ordinance limits the number and type of animals. The board also agreed to remove the Special Use designation for manufactured housing of three or more units on a lot under Residential.
A citizen asked questions about how the IZO addresses non-conforming properties and requested clarification on the specific wording for those scenarios. The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the Eagle Township Master Plan on July 30, and the board directed that the IZO chart changes be forwarded to McKenna and the Planning Commission for their consideration and any public process required before ordinance adoption.
The item was handled as a board review and forwarding action; no final ordinance adoption took place at the July 18 meeting.
