Board favors smaller 7 Brew monument sign with mixed plantings to buffer headlights

Cathy Clark, representing 7 Brew, told the board the applicant revised the monument sign after an earlier, noncompliant design and filed an updated site and landscape plan. "So currently, as you see ... we're looking at a 2 foot base, brick base, and a 4 foot LED internally lit cabinet," Clark said, adding the latest design reduces overall sign area to about 25 square feet.
Board members raised concerns about plant survivability and winter damage to hollies and suggested mixing hollies with dwarf arborvitae and other species to provide a 4-to-5-foot buffer and reduce maintenance. One member noted the hollies are intended as a headlight buffer for vehicles exiting the drive onto Madison Road.
A committee member moved and the board seconded a favorable recommendation for the monument sign with the discussed planting modifications. The motion passed by roll call; members recorded "Yes" for Mr. Diodovich, Swartko, Mr. Glassner, Mr. Pickett and Mr. Wheezy.
The recommendation forwards the modified monument design and landscaping to Planning & Zoning for final review and any permitting requirements.
