Mayer said the additional asphalt removal and material handling increased quantities and that the change order pays the contractor for work already completed.
On the microsurfacing contract (pulled from the consent agenda for discussion), Mayer described microsurfacing as “an asphalt surface treatment, much like chip seal,” noting it’s typically applied in two passes using oil, water and aggregate and can be used as a leveling course before a finish seal. Commissioners voted to approve the change order and the microsurfacing contract by roll call.
