Facilities director details bond projects, district-wide air conditioning and maintenance improvements

Josh Rhodes, director of maintenance and facilities, briefed the board on capital resources and district projects on Jan. 19.
Rhodes said the district maintains roughly 866,000 square feet across 13 facilities and nearly 350 acres of grounds. He outlined staffing changes after retirements and named recent hires. Rhodes credited a shift to a preventative-maintenance model and the FMX work-order system with a multiyear decline in emergency work orders.
Construction and equipment highlights included new shingles, HVAC and air-conditioning installations (air conditioning completed at Maguire and Pullen; district-wide AC expected to be operational by summer after remaining phases finish), new combi ovens in the middle and high school kitchens, and an earlier aux-gym wall reconstruction tied to bond funding. Rhodes also summarized contracted services (custodial, landscaping, building-management-system vendor) and said upcoming fire-alarm design work and parking-lot resurfacing are planned this summer.
Board members thanked the facilities staff for predictive maintenance work that they said will reduce costly emergency repairs.
Rhodes noted maintenance and custodial teams also manage snow removal and early-morning plowing to keep buildings operating during winter weather.
