Middle school and OASIS leaders report declines in behavior referrals and midyear gains

Mount Pleasant Middle School Principal Courtney Russell and OASIS staff updated the board on Jan. 19 with data they said show progress on behavior and credit recovery.
Courtney Russell said the middle school uses advisory, social-emotional lessons and MTSS strategies tied to the Capturing Kids' Hearts framework. She reported roughly 374 students achieved honor-roll status in the first trimester and said behavior referrals were down about 13% from the prior year through December. "We continue to make improvement every year," she said, pointing to midyear survey results and implementation data.
Administrators highlighted academic supports including Euler Hour tutoring (Courtney reported 408 sessions in December) and web-leader orientation programs that pair older students with incoming sixth-graders. The school also noted expanded partnerships with community mental-health providers and higher education researchers.
OASIS staff briefed trustees on the Edmentum platform used for semester coursework and said a recent 2½-week push moved about 90 course enrollments from not-passing to passing status. OASIS reported two certified midyear graduations with a third expected that week; staff said they will monitor credit accrual targets through the spring.
Board members commended the staff for turning strategy into measurable improvements and asked for continued data sharing and family-engagement efforts.
