Special magistrate finds Crew family in violation for outdoor storage at Victory Palm Drive

Officer Hayzwood of City of Edgewater Code Enforcement told the magistrate the city observed two trailers in the right-of-way, homemade storage racks extending above the fence line, a tarp over a vehicle, a dilapidated fence and a makeshift shed. The notice of violation listed outdoor storage and debris, trailer storage, nuisance generally, accessory structure issues and canopies/temporary carports; staff recommended $75 citations in each matter and daily fines of $100 for continuing outdoor storage.
Diane Crew, who identified herself as the owner and respondent, said the materials on the property are used by a household member who is self-employed and cannot afford off-site storage. "He uses and reuses all of the materials that he keeps in the yard," Crew said, asking the magistrate for leniency and saying the household does not have the funds for a storage unit.
Magistrate Knight acknowledged the family’s circumstances but cited the public-safety and property-value rationales the code embodies, saying that visible junk can attract rodents and affect neighboring property values. He ordered the respondents to correct the violations by 02/22/2026, assessed $75 citations in each matter and warned that a $100-per-day fine will be imposed for each day the outdoor storage continues after the correction date.
The order requires the respondent to contact code enforcement to arrange a compliance inspection once remedial actions listed in the notice of violation are completed. No additional continuance was granted.
What happens next: The respondents must arrange a verification inspection with code enforcement; failure to correct by the deadline will trigger daily fines as ordered.
