Council OKs up to $1.9 million contract for pavement resurfacing

The Weatherford City Council approved procurement of pavement resurfacing services from Reynolds Asphalt and Construction Company through an interlocal contract with Grand Prairie, authorizing up to $1.9 million for removal and replacement of select thoroughfare and residential roadways.
Matt Leffler of Public Works outlined this year’s projects, which include sections of East Bankhead Drive, Foster Drive, Hilltop Drive and Adams Drive — combined accounting for roughly seven lane miles of thoroughfares — and a residential component that includes wedge milling and overlay in the Bedinger subdivision and Grant Drive. Leffler said the Bankhead segment will be deferred where a water/wastewater utility project is scheduled for 2026.
Council members pressed staff on scheduling, weather dependence and the data-driven process used to prioritize roads. Public Works said the city has shifted to a rotating pavement-condition assessment to collect more consistent data rather than waiting multiple years, and that staff use condition data and utility coordination to time resurfacing.
A motion to approve the contract was made by Heidi Wilder and seconded by Matt Tiscus; the motion carried. Staff said the contractor could begin work as early as November, weather permitting.
