Rutherford County DSS elects Georgia Steel as vice chair; board left with one county-commission appointment pending
Summary
Board added an agenda item and elected Georgia Steel as vice chair. Former vice chair Brian King has resigned; the county commissioners will advertise and appoint a replacement per statute.
At the start of the meeting the chair proposed and the board agreed to add an agenda item to elect a vice chair. After nominations, the board closed nominations and voted to elect Miss Georgia Steel as vice chair. The chair announced, "Miss Georgia Steel is the vice chair."
Chair also informed the board the former vice chair, Brian King, has tendered his resignation from the Department of Social Services board. The chair explained the vacancy will be filled by appointment through the Rutherford County commissioners under the general statutes; the board will not vote to fill the seat but will accept the appointee once the commissioners act.
Earlier in the meeting the board moved to adopt the agenda with the additional item and later approved the minutes after clarifying a point of order about voting eligibility for newly seated members.
