Committee votes to forward opposition to AB 1337, citing privacy disclosure concerns

The Albany County personnel, administration and legislation committee on June 8 voted to forward a recommendation opposing AB 1337 after hearing a request from Alameda County Health.
Chair Supervisor Tam described the bill as revising "the circumstances that would allow disclosure of personal information in a manner that could link the information to individuals that, get this public assistance and social safety programs," and said many observers view the change as enabling a public-charge-like effect. Supervisor Portunato Bass moved to forward the county’s opposition and Supervisor Tam seconded.
The clerk recorded aye votes, the motion passed and the committee forwarded the position to the full board. No public comments were recorded on the item.
Committee members did not adopt amendments or ask staff to prepare alternate language during the meeting; the action was limited to forwarding Alameda County Health’s recommended opposition to the full board.
