Council schedules hearings June 24 on I‑1 zoning changes and a Dairy Queen‑area site plan

Chair DeVitus reported the Planning, Community and Economic Development Committee reviewed two items on third reading and set public hearings for Tuesday, June 24 at 7 p.m. in council chambers.
Ordinance 2025‑007 would amend Chapter 157 (Table of Allowed Uses) to add certain conditional and permitted uses in the I‑1 General Industrial district; the committee said a list of the specific uses is attached to the legislation and that discussion would continue at the public hearing. "Basically this changes some of the allowed uses in the I-one zoning in our city, giving conditional and permitted uses for certain facilities within that zoning," DeVitus said.
Resolution 2025‑R22 would amend the conceptual site plan for an existing planned development on the east side of Maslin Road south of Burgess Drive. DeVitus said the revised site plan allows a connection to Burgess Drive that should reduce left‑turn traffic onto Maslin Road. The update also envisions a freestanding Dairy Queen at the southeast corner of Burgess and 241 and possibly an additional larger retail building. The developer and architect will attend the June 24 hearing to present the plan and answer council and public questions.
The committee requested and was granted time on both items; no final votes were taken on June 2.
