Johns Creek ACE committee finalizes America 2 50 event logistics, postpones time capsule to allow more community input

Committee members asked about promotional timing and volunteer sign-ups. S3, who met with the interim communications director, said initial promotional pushes would begin next week with emphasis on soccer watch parties and a movie in the park, and staff confirmed sponsorships for America 2 50 are open through June 26.
Members discussed volunteer registration platforms. S2 recalled past use of EventMe, while S3 said the city currently uses RecOne and is evaluating other options to make sign-up easier for volunteers.
On the time capsule, S4 said only about four schools responded to requests for photos, two from outside Johns Creek, making the project unlikely to be ready for the July event. Committee members suggested moving the time capsule to the city’s December anniversary (the 20th anniversary was raised as a possibility), soliciting mayoral letters, veteran stories and family photos, and including artifacts such as restaurant menus or stamps to document the era.
S4 said staff will look into outreach options (including Montessori and private year-round schools) and will follow up with the committee about next steps and how to collect items if the capsule is scheduled for a later date.
The committee also agreed informally to staff a Parade of Stars booth during America 2 50 to help children with activities; S4 said she would circulate a follow-up email for members to confirm volunteer commitments.
