Johns Creek staff updates committee on JC Paws ribbon date, $200,000 art commission and Daffodil Days plans

Olivia, a city staff member, said the JC Paws ribbon-cutting date has moved to the 18th and that updated flyers and a calendar invite will be sent to committee members. She told the committee the Boardwalk At Town Center call for artists will be a national, two-stage process and that the city has budgeted $200,000 for a commissioned sculpture intended for the park grand opening next summer.
On the artist registry, staff reported 15 applicants and said the first approved batch will be published by the end of March. On Daffodil Days, Olivia said the event will be free with no parking charge or ticketing, has three sponsors (about $2,500 total), nearly all volunteer shifts filled, and that staff are using parking contractors, vendor estimates and aerial stills to estimate attendance. "It will be a completely free and open event," Olivia said.
During public comment, Darnella Gamble, owner of Rewax and Unwind in Johns Creek, introduced herself and said she wanted to learn about planned events and be more involved. Olivia also relayed details: the Mayor's student art competition deadline is April 14 and the State of the City will be Thursday, April 3 at Johns Creek High School; RSVPs may be sent to RSVP@JohnsCreekGA.gov.
On sponsorships, staff clarified that the city cannot accept tax-deductible donations directly and recommended routing such gifts through a 501(c)(3) or creating a Friends group if the committee wishes to pursue a mechanism for deductible sponsorships in the future. The committee approved the meeting minutes from Feb. 13 and later adjourned.
