County staff seek Alameda County sign-on to $250,000 state request to create medically supportive food advisory group

Eileen of Alameda County Health asked the Personnel Administration and Legislation Committee to endorse a coalition letter supporting Assemblymember Mia Bonta’s budget request for $250,000 from the California General Fund to the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) to establish a medically supportive food and nutrition advisory work group.
"We have here today a request for the County to sign on a coalition letter in support of Assemblymember Mia Bonta's budget request for $250,000 from the California General Fund, for DHCS to launch and facilitate a medically supportive food and nutrition advisory work group," Eileen said, explaining that "Recipe for Health" is covered under CalAIM community supports and that DHCS intends to transition community supports from waiver-based services to Medi‑Cal benefits.
Eileen and county staff said a work group could help ensure the benefit’s implementation meets provider and patient needs before the CalAIM waiver expires in December 2026. The committee was told the item will be placed on the full Board agenda for March 11 for consideration.
No formal vote was recorded at the committee level; staff confirmed the item will proceed to the full Board for consideration and the committee thanked presenters for the briefing.
