Douglas Library schedules May 16 plant sale, rolls out spring programs and volunteer drive

The Douglas Library board set a plant sale for Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with 8:00 a.m. scheduled for set-up. Board members discussed volunteer and donation logistics: Carol S. will work with Fruend’s for plants, Laura MC will contact HVRHS about geranium and hanging-basket donations and Bunny McGuire will reach out to the Beckley House about volunteers. The board agreed not to extend the sale to bake goods and will run a bag-of-books sale inside the library.
The Librarian’s Report noted ongoing and upcoming programs: Friday morning story hours with improving attendance, a new '1,000 Books before Kindergarten' initiative to encourage early reading with incentives after every 100 books, and summer reading planning under the theme 'Plant a Seed, Read.' The minutes also recorded volunteer contributions from three high-school juniors who assisted with painting events, party planning and sale book sorting.
Other scheduled events include a March Alice in Wonderland Story Hour and related programs in April, a local-author talk April 10, a Local Watershed talk May 27 and a cocktail party in July. The library also listed recurring groups: a weekly Mother’s Group, Scrabble nights and senior meet-ups; the board encouraged members to attend mid-day senior meet-ups and noted the library will adjust senior-meetup scheduling to avoid conflicts with other events.
The board will update the plant-sale poster, request potted-plant donations from the community and finalize volunteer pick-up help as arrangements are confirmed.
