Rushford council awards $52,350 paving contract, approves hires and promotions

Rushford’s City Council on April 13 approved a $52,350.00 bid from Dunn Blacktop Company to pave two alleys between Mill Street and Ferry Street and to patch areas on S. Prairie Street.
Public Works Director Roger Knutson told the council that Public Works will do most demolition and base work to reduce contractor cost. The motion to award the contract passed without recorded roll-call after Councilor Nick Smith moved and Councilor Judi Pronk seconded.
The council also approved items on the consent agenda that included hiring two new firefighters, Dustin Bunke and Cody Nagle, on a recommendation from Fire Chief Nick Smith; the consent agenda also included approval of the funds summary and payments for March 23–April 9, 2026.
Councilors voted to rehire Jonah Buchanan for a part-time summer public-works position; the council noted Buchanan has held the role for the past three summers and will focus on mowing and string trimming. The council further approved promotions for Public Works employees Drew Anderson and Nathan Metz to Worker 2 after both passed Class D water and wastewater certifications.
All motions were recorded in the minutes as “motion carried.”
