Residents describe new Black and Latino Impact Center funded by Project RISE and ask council support

Several community leaders addressed the council during the public forum to describe a Project RISE-funded effort and to ask for council support.
Frank (North Central) described a roughly $2 million Project RISE initiative from the New York State Department of Criminal Justice that supported collaboration between lead agencies and grassroots organizations; he said the partnership helped open the Black and Latino Impact Center at 68 Dow Street and announced an open house on Dec. 13 from noon to 5 p.m. "If you go down there right now, I'm pretty sure you'll see, we've done a lot, to bring security, heighten the morale in the area," Frank said.
Diana read the center's mission statement, which emphasizes transforming Troy's North Central community by improving members' lives through education, mentoring, healthy-food distribution and partnerships with agencies and school districts. Resident speakers Kermit McCauley, Junell Osman, Doreena Floyd, Priscilla Hilton McCauley and Cheryl Hampton described long-term residency in Troy and urged the council to support the center and the programming it will host for youth and families.
Speakers noted upcoming community activities at the center and the nearby Troy Boys and Girls Club (the Clubhouse) and encouraged council members to attend the open house and partner with local providers on safety and youth engagement efforts.
