Council approves Act 51 road decertification, several recognition resolutions and special-event permits

The Norway City Council approved a package of routine and administrative items that included a resolution to decertify certain road segments under Michigan’s Act 51, ceremonial recognitions for public works and police personnel, and permits for two community events.
On Resolution 2026-06, council members discussed the scope of decertification and said the segments total about a quarter-mile; the mayor and council said the change was not expected to have a significant effect on Act 51 funding. The resolution directs the city to update the state form (MDOT form 2008b) and was approved by the council.
The council unanimously approved Resolution 2026-07 recognizing May 17–23 as National Public Works Week and Resolution 2026-08 recognizing May 10–16 as National Police Week and May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day. Council members thanked public works and police staff for their service.
On special events, the council approved the annual citywide garage sale for Saturday, May 16 (8 a.m.–4 p.m.) with rules about temporary signage and removal, and approved a request to relocate the open air market nearer the band shell on Thursday concert nights, including closing a limited number of parking stalls early to allow vendor setup and allowing market hours from 6 p.m. until the concert ends.
All motions were moved, seconded and carried by the members present. The meeting ended with brief mayor and council announcements and adjournment.
