Board recommends revised Atlantic Foods sign after plan to add separation bar

The Green City Design Review Board on Dec. 3 recommended approval of a revised sign plan for Atlantic Foods, contingent on minor changes and field confirmation of setback. Noah Saran of Arco National Construction described the sign and answered questions about size, illumination and landscaping.
Saran said the sign is a CMU block base with a stucco face painted to match the building and a black metal Atlantic Foods sign mounted above it. He told the board the sign "is 120 inches by 95 inches, which is greater than the allotted 60 square feet." Board members discussed how to calculate the sign face, noting that blank area between elements does not count as sign face if separated. Saran proposed adding a black separation bar to achieve compliance with the 60‑square‑foot limit.
Board staff asked that the sign be staked by a surveyor prior to installation to confirm the setback from the right of way, and Saran agreed. He also said two floodlights would be installed to illuminate the sign; landscaping would remain or be replaced as necessary. A committee member moved a favorable recommendation with the modification to add the separation line; the motion was seconded and passed in roll call.
The board’s recommendation will be conveyed to zoning staff; the board asked staff to confirm the sign’s setback and that the field stake aligns with the approved plan before installation.
