Council adopts ordinance to vacate scattered alleys and rights-of-way to clear encumbrances for future development

The Weatherford City Council on a unanimous vote adopted Ordinance 02025-32 to close, vacate and abandon portions of Dale Street, Oakland Street, Ridgeway Boulevard, Tulare Street, Newport Street and related alleys in a property south of Ranger Drive.
Chad Martin, a city staff presenter, told the council the rights-of-way are unimproved, scattered across a single owner’s tract and currently encumber potential future development. "Staff does not see the need for those at this time, especially as scattered as they are," Martin said, and recommended approval.
The mayor opened and closed the public hearing after no members of the public came forward to comment. Council member Zach Smith moved to approve the ordinance; Matt Tiscus seconded, and the council voted to adopt the measure.
The ordinance will remove those identified rights-of-way from the city’s active circulation and allow the property owner to proceed with development plans, subject to any applicable conditions and future permitting. City staff did not report any outstanding easements or utilities that would prevent abandonment during the meeting.
The council did not receive public opposition at the hearing. The council’s action clears municipal encumbrances identified by staff and allows the applicant and property owner to pursue development options. The council did not specify an effective date during the meeting.
