Solano County honors two long-serving officials and spotlights employees and centenarians

Barb Alverson, senior deputy director with San Joaquin County Public Health Services, told the board she has worked with Cox for more than three decades and called her "one of the best of the best," praising Cox's collaborative work on tobacco control and statewide public-health initiatives. A former county health officer who said he hired Cox, Dr. Tom Sharon, described her as his "best hire ever." Cox accepted the plaque and told the board public health "has been my calling," thanked colleagues and noted the county had allocated opioid settlement funds to prevention work.
The board also adopted a resolution recognizing Dana F. Vaughn, deputy county counsel, on her retirement after nearly 30 years of public service, including time in the district attorney's office and later in county counsel roles. Colleagues credited Vaughn with establishing legal procedures for public-guardian and public-administrator responsibilities and praised her work on implementing Laura's Law and other court-related protocols. Vaughn reflected on a career that moved from prosecution to county counsel work and thanked co-workers and law-enforcement partners.
Separately, the board presented the Solano County employee of the month award to Isabel Rodriguez of the Department of Veteran Services; county staff said Rodriguez serves as the first point of contact for veterans and was nominated for her customer service and teamwork. The board also received a video and yearbook as part of the county's annual centenarian commemoration, noting 44 centenarians honored this year and highlighting their community contributions.
All honorific resolutions on these agenda items passed without recorded opposition.
The board's actions were largely ceremonial but underscored cross-departmental collaboration, long-term program continuity in health education and legal services, and the county's emphasis on recognizing public servants and community members.
