The Salem County Special Services and Vocational Technical School District board on Aug. 27 authorized district staff to apply for a Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers continuation grant for $550,000 in partnership with the Penns Grove–Carneys Point School District. The two-year continuation would run Sept. 1, 2024, through Aug. 31, 2025, if funded.
In the same meeting the board accepted a package of FY2025 grants the administration presented, including the Carl D. Perkins Secondary grant ($136,414), the Carl D. Perkins Post‑Secondary grant ($90,978), the Individual Disabilities Education Act Part B (IDEA‑B) allocation ($128,805), and ESEA allocations (Title I: $205,064; Title II: $24,109; Title IV: $14,312). The board recorded its acceptance of these grants by roll-call vote.
Superintendent and business‑office staff said the 21st CCLC funding would support the district’s beyond‑the‑school‑day activities and summer programming and that the application continues a partnership structure with Penns Grove–Carneys Point. The IDEA‑B and Perkins funds were presented as recurring federal program allocations for the July 1, 2024–June 30, 2025 budget cycle.
Board members voted to accept the grant awards and to authorize application submission; the roll call recorded five affirmative votes from the members present. Next steps include formal submission to the New Jersey Department of Education and, if awarded, incorporation of the grant totals into the district’s 2024–25 budgets and grant accounting.
