Craven County approves updated transit safety plan with new assault-on-worker definitions

Craven County on June 15 approved an updated Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP) for CARTS that clarifies definitions and procedures related to assaults on transit workers and aligns with NCDOT-Integrated Mobility Division templates.
Transportation Director Deanna Trebil said the update provides a framework for identifying, mitigating and training on hazards and incidents. She said drivers reviewed the updated plan at a May 21 meeting and that the most substantive change clarifies the definition and procedures for addressing Assault on Transit Workers.
Commissioner Sherry Hunt asked for confirmation that the updated plan defines assault; Mrs. Trebil affirmed. Commissioner Tim Mason moved to approve the PTASP update; Commissioner E. T. Mitchell seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The plan places emphasis on frontline-employee input, formalizes definitions used in incident reporting and aligns county practice with state and federal safety requirements. County staff provided copies of the updated plan to the Board.
