Brody Brown, Natural Resource Conservationist II, told commissioners the Cypress Bay Homeowners Association requested the county act as grant administrator to pursue a North Carolina Water Resources Development Program grant supporting Neuse River restoration. The resolution commits the county to obtain state and federal permits, supervise construction to approved plans and assume responsibility for operation and maintenance.
Why it matters: Living shorelines are designed to dissipate wave action, reduce erosion and rebuild marsh areas—actions the presenter linked to improved FEMA scores that can lower flood-insurance rates for area residents.
Board action: Commissioner Sherry Hunt moved to adopt the resolution; Commissioner Chadwick Howard seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
