During new business on Oct. 14, the council president and councilman Wheatley said they attended the fire department's heavy rescue truck push-in ceremony. The president described the vehicle as a specialized heavy rescue apparatus designed for crash response and life-saving equipment.
The president said, "Roundabout numbers, I don't have them in front of me, but it's about a 1.1, I think. $11,100,000 purchase, is what the fire truck cost. I'm gonna say ish because I don't have the numbers in front of me." He added the purchase was "mostly funded by grants and through the fire ambulance fund as well," and that he believed no general-fund dollars were used.
Council did not take any additional action at the meeting; the president and councilmembers praised the department's efforts in securing funding for the apparatus.
