Wheatland council approves consent agenda, hears public forum concerns and infrastructure reports

At its April 14 meeting, the Wheatland City Council approved the consent agenda, which included minutes from March 10 and March 31 and the clerk’s financial report. The clerk reported March gross wages of $14,772.31, total revenues of $148,525.87 and total expenses of $82,605.70. Council Member Hicks moved to approve the consent agenda and Council Member Fauser seconded; the vote was All Ayes.

During public forum, Sharon Westerhof raised a neighborhood complaint citing a neighbor’s dog, chickens and alleged trespassing and said a civil case has been filed; Mayor Jeremiah Wiese asked that written complaints be submitted and asked the clerk to check prior minutes and add the item to the May agenda for further discussion.

Patricia Schulz asked for and received permission to keep chickens. Kari Jones requested permission to close a portion of Washington Street in August for a live auction; the council agreed to place that request on the May agenda and the clerk will notify affected residents by letter. Dick Rowold inquired about purchasing a portion of North Street behind his properties; the clerk will speak with the city attorney about adding an easement for utilities if the area is sold or vacated.

Public works was asked to investigate a leaking hydrant at Williams and Vine streets that is causing standing water, and to look into drainage problems on the alley between Washington and Lincolnway where storm drains were said to have been filled in. The clerk also said she will provide a letter of support to Kim Kay for the Hometown Pride Committee's application for a CCDA grant.
